We enthusiastically welcome Alana Wilson from Denver, CO. She brings to us fundraising skills, donor engagement and stewardship, and communications skills (social media and newsletter).
As part of our introspective as a Foundation, we realized we actually have 3 audiences:
- Small farmers and processors direct through our Compassionate Relief Fund
- Farmer Advocacy organizations that we support through grants and supply direct legal assistance to small farms and processors
- Fundraising and donor communications
Alana will be able to help us connect with all three. She told us she was interested in this position because she is passionate about creating a healthy and diverse food system that is sustainable from production to consumption. She believes our food system lies at the intersection of social and environmental justice and organizations like us (the Food Freedom Foundation) are working towards creating a fair system that serves both causes. Oftentimes, it is a lack of awareness and resources that stands in the way of implementing such change. She believes through donor engagement, stewardship, and increased access to resources that these goals can be achieved and this role does exactly that.
Alana’s personality and enthusiasm were exhibited throughout the interview. She called herself a food geek (meant in the best possible way). She said people thrive on a diverse diet filled with nutrient-rich foods locally grown and yet the majority of people do not have access to such foods. To her, the importance of local food systems became even more apparent during the pandemic and that it is a pivotal time for agriculture activists seeking to rebuild a food system that is fair and sustainable.
I couldn’t have said it better. Welcome to The Food Freedom Foundation Alana!
